Make your own delicious alcohol-free Limoncello – In 3 simple steps!

I will start this alcohol-free Limoncello recipe with a bit of a background… Last month I was on a weeks holiday with a group of friends, consisting of three families. Together we always rent a big house and have 7 days of mayhem. This year we all had a super fun time, as usual, and being the only non-drinker in the group didn´t bother me at all. I´m used to it by now and the fact that all these friends are very supportive of my decision to not drink anymore makes it a lot easier too.

As a bit of a given every year one of my friends brings a bottle of homemade Limoncello with her. And this year she didn´t only bring her usual version but… she made an alcohol-free Limoncello especially for me! How sweet is that… And it was delicious, so I asked her for the recipe to share it here with you all!

Here we go…

⚡️ Warning! It only takes like 15 minutes to make BUT two weeks until it’s ready to drink, as it needs lots of steeping…⚡️

INGREDIENTS (this makes about 1,5 litre)

  • 5 lemons
  • 1L of alcohol-free vodka (my friend used ‘Strykk not Vodka’ from STRYKK)
  • 300g sugar
  • 300ml water

RECIPE Alcohol-free Limoncello

  1. Zest the lemons (with either a vegetable peeler or a paring knife). Be careful that you don’t cut in too deeply, as you don’t want the white bit. Put the zest in a large, clean jar and pour over the non-alcoholic vodka. Cover with a tightly fitting lid and leave for a week, shaking the jar each day!
  2. One week later —> Put the sugar into a little pan, add water and then simmer this mixture until the sugar is dissolved and it’s slightly thickened. Allow to cool. Then add the non-alcoholic vodka and lemon peels and leave it for another week, shaking the jar regularly…
  3. Another week later —> It is ready to drink! Strain the alcohol-free Limoncello into a nice bottle, stick a label on that reads “Limoncello 0.0%”, add a few strips of lemon zest and ALL IS DONE

It tastes so good, very lemony with a real bite to it!!! I was a big Limoncello fan when I used to drink and this looks like Limoncello, smells like Limoncello and tastes like Limoncello but… It hasn´t got the anxiety-inducing/headache giving/depression producing alcohol added to it 😉

I hope you liked today´s recipe! And if you´re going to make it, let me know your results below in the comments below?

Just to let you know my 0/0% worked … absolutely lovely, keep one bottle in the fridge & keep gently shaking the other one. It made 2 x 70ml bottles. Thank you so much for sharing. Claire

    Hi Izzy,

Thank you for this great recipe. In step 2, should the sugar water first cool off before adding then non-alcoholic vodka?

    Thanks en best regards

    Hello
May I ask as I had done some research on making limoncello and then found your alcohol free recipe
With regards to the sugar can you use more? I’ve seen some recipes with 750g of caster sugar and 700ml of boiling water but they were using vodka and I’m using alcohol free.
    What are your thoughts?
Thanks and excited to try this as I love limoncello but have stopped drinking alcohol and would love something for the summertime.
    Wait to hear from you.

      Hi Claire,

Thank you so much for your interest in my alcohol-free version of Limoncello! I guess it all depends on how sweet you like it 🙂 My friend, who made this, used the measures above but she also said it´s a bit of trying what you like… She added a whole 1 litre bottle of Strykk Alcohol-free Vodka to it, will you be doing the same? I think, just go for it! If you use a litre of alcohol-free vodka and then like 650/700g of sugar and like 700/750ml of water (and perhaps a few more lemons too, like 8/9), it might work out tremendously!! Will you let me know what you think of it…?

I am excited to try this. My husband likes a limoncello most evenings and now I will be able to have my own version.

      Hi Angela!
So cool to hear that you´re going to make this 🙂 Add sugar to the level you like it, some people like it sweeter than others… Good luck and let me know what you think? X
